What to Bring

Tip: Consider checking with your roommate before bringing large sharable items (t.v., rug, etc.)

For the Room:

  • Alarm clock
  • Area rug
  • Computer or typewriter
  • Desk supplies (including paper, pens, pencils, tape, envelopes, stamps, folders, etc.)
  • Dictionary and/or thesaurus
  • Extension cords (grounded, with surge protectors only)
  • Fan (but no space heaters, please)
  • Flashlight
  • Games
  • Iron and ironing board
  • Laundry basket/bag and detergent
  • Pillows, blankets, linens, quilts and/or comforters
  • Posters, pictures and other wall decorations
  • Reading lamp
  • Small sewing, first aid and tool kits
  • Stereo
  • Telephone (for land line connection)
  • Television/DVD player
  • Umbrella or rain coat
  • Utensils (plates, cups, etc.) for snacks

For the Bathroom:

  • Bathrobe
  • Shower caddie (to transport items to and from the bathroom)
  • Hair dryer and/or curling iron
  • Toiletries (including soap, deodorant, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrush, razor, etc.)
  • Towels and washcloths
  • Shower shoes (flip-flops)

Things NOT to Bring

Candles, potpourri burners, incense, soldering irons and halogen products are considered fire hazards by the Richmond Fire Department and are not permitted in residence halls.

Eating on Campus

Although each residence hall is equipped with at least one kitchen, incoming students must remain on the full 19 meal plan their first semester. After the first semester, meal-change requests are made through Dining Services, located in the dining hall across from the dish return area.
