Off-Campus Opportunities

Study Abroad Programs

Students complement their work on the Earlham campus by participating in one of three semester-long off-campus programs. Students may choose from:

Students in these programs study with on-site faculty and the Earlham program faculty director. Students also live with families who provide an experience of daily cutlural life and the opportunity to hone Spanish language skills.

Field Study

Field studies complement on-campus studies by allowing students to get practical, hands-on experience. Students participating in the off-campus Field Study program work with the guidance of on-site faculty and the field study program leader to choose a setting based on their specific interests. Recent field studies have included excavating Roman ruins in Spain, working in hospitals, non-profits and schools, assisting in the making of pottery in a Mexican village, working with the Green Party , and participating in theater, dance and human rights organizations.

Volunteer Work

Earlham students have been very involved in helping to shape the future of Richmond's services for the local growing and vibrant Hispanic community. There are numerous opportunities for students to become involved, including: vounteering at Head Start; teaching English and working with Hispanic children at AMIGOS, the Richmond Latino Center; acting as tutors in the public schools and as teaching assistants in Earlham classrooms. One student volunteered her time to interpret and to translate materials for WIC (Women, Infants and Children).
