Constitution / Petition of Recognition of Buddhist Student Union (aka Buddhism Club- unofficially)

Article I: Name and Purpose
Section 1: Buddhist Student Union (aka Buddhism Club- unofficially)
Section 2: The purpose of the Buddhism club is to provide an environment for those interested in Buddhism to learn and practice together and also to share Buddhism with the rest of Earlham’s community.
Section 3: The reason for formation is to provide a place for this community where there was none before.
Section 4: The long term goals of the organization are to have a continued practice of Buddhism on Earlham’s campus, organize Buddhist retreats for students and faculty, organize visiting speakers, celebrate Buddhist holidays, and to acquire items needed for Buddhist practice so that they may be used by Earlham’s community.

Article II: Membership
Section 1: The only requirement for membership is to have some interest in Buddhism.

Article III: Officers and/or leaders
Section 1: Convenor- Alex Wall
Business Manager- Danni Green
Section 2: Convenor- The convenor will lead planning and discussion meetings and may also lead meditation sessions if they feel experienced enough. If no one feels lead to lead meditation then the responsibility fall on the convenor. It is also the convenors responsibility to reserve rooms and times for meetings. The convenor is also in charge of general organization of the club.
Business Manager- The business manager handles financial aspects of the club such as the budget and record keeping and making proposals.

Article IV: Selection of Officers
Section 1:
Selection of officers will be on a volunteer basis with consensus of the rest of the members.

Article V: Meetings
Section 1: Planning and Discussion meetings will be held Monday nights at 9:30 pm on the first floor of the Meeting house. Group meditation will be on Sundays at 7:00 pm in the Meeting House Library. Morning meditation will be week days at 7:40 in the quiet room.

Article VI: Quorum
Section 1: One officer and one member must be present. General consensus must be given by the rest of the club for major decisions affecting the whole club.

Article VII: Amendments and by-laws.
Section 1: Amendments will be made with the consensus of the club.
Section 2: no by-laws.

Article 8: Faculty Advisor
Section 1: Forrest Tobey, Music Department.
