The serial console for ASHTI is connected to a vt220 serial terminal, as the Cyclades terminal server is dependant on
SHANTI and ASHTI for authentication, thus it would create a dependancy loop during machine room startup and shutdown procedures.
Purpose
ASHTI is the directory server. It houses the authoritative information for all accounts and groups in an instance of the Sun ONE Directory Server (LDAP). It also stores Sendmail e-mail aliases and mailing list aliases for the mail cluster (
BARIS,
KE, and
TAIKA).
Dependancies
ASHTI depends on either
PAX or
EIRENE for DNS lookups. Such lookups are not required for basic operation, however performance may be degraded or access denied without DNS.
ASHTI is a master LDAP server in parallel with
SITH. Both should be running at the same time, however periodic brief outages of either (for upgrades or other maintenance) are fine.
Startup/Shutdown
- Startup: at the moment, startup is performed either by hitting the power switch in the back of the unit or by connecting to the LOM serial console and issuing a
poweron command. This will be automated when ASHTI is put into production.
- Shutdown:
shutdown -g0 -y -i5 will shutdown the system and power it off. Power on must then be performed via the LOM serial console or by hitting the power switch in the back of the unit. Using init state 6 (-i6) will reboot the system.
