Purpose
The CD server is a special purpose NAS device which is designed to quickly copy CD and DVD images to a local cache hard drive image area and then make these images available over the network. The device is located on a private network and exports images via NFS to
PAX so that they may be mounted in the appropriate directories for public access. Image management is performed via a web interface which can be run on one of the other dual-homed servers (e.g.,
PACO) or on a laptop plugged in to the private network and appropriately configured.
Dependancies
The CD server has no dependancies, however it will send e-mail alerts to
KE if available.
Startup/Shutdown
Startup and shutdown is performed with the power switch on the front of the unit inside the plastic door. Shutdown takes a few moments. At startup, it may perform a filesystem check, which takes several hours, however the CD images will be available during this time.
