About the WebCam

The College’s Web camera is situated atop Earlham Hall, built on the site of the original Friends Boarding School erected in Richmond in 1855. It looks northeast across The Heart, the large circular lawn in front of Earlham Hall that throughout much of the history of the campus has served as a communal meeting place for students, faculty, staff, returning alumni, family members and friends of the College.

At any given moment, observers are as likely to find The Heart being used by students as an impromptu athletic field for a rousing game of ultimate Frisbee as they are to find it a pleasant location for a leisurely lunch or casual hour of studying in the shade of a nearby tree. As the location, too, for occasional gatherings commemorating significant events (after 9/11, for example) or marking the loss of a community member, The Heart represents not only the physical center of Earlham, but also its spiritual core.
