Recreational Sports at Earlham College are an integral and significant phase of the total wellness and fitness program that is geared toward the ability and skills of the entire College community. They exist for voluntary participation in team and individual sports and games.
The primary purpose of Rec Sports is to assist a majority of the community in the acquisition of a wide variety of leisure time skills, which will aid in relaxation and socialization while meeting recreational and competitive needs.
The Recreational Sports program seeks to offer a chance for all members of the College community to more fully and more meaningfully utilize and enjoy their recreational leisure time, and in so doing to benefit physically, emotionally, psychologically and socially.
The Rec Sports program is voluntary, and the desire to participate is of greater importance than skill level. It also offers the opportunity to participate in a sport without the time commitment of a varsity team.
For any activity, all teams are required to be composed of Earlham College students, faculty or alumni. All Rec Sports events are co-ed. The teams may change from sport to sport. Team rosters which change from sport to sport encourage people to branch out and have contact with new faces. Suggested groups to form Rec Sports teams are: dorms, halls, houses, majors and special interest groups.
To participate in Recreational Sports, an individual without a selected team may submit his/her name to the Rec Sports Director.
Sign-up sheets for Recreational Sports participation can be found at the Athletics & Wellness Center Welcome Desk or Runyan Center desk. Organized meetings are scheduled for some sports and events.
