1. About the Template General
This template, EC_4.dwt and the associated file stylesheet.css,
have been developed, modified and refined by the Web Team for the
use
of all Web content providers at Earlham College. It is not required
that anyone use this template, but we have spent much time on its
creation in attempts to address a number of accessibility, design,
and flexibility issues that make it extremely useful to those content
providers who do choose to implement it. Using a template to create
your Web pages provides increased speed of page creation, ease
and flexibility in updating multiple pages, and particularly with
this
template, a standardized navigation scheme that users will intuitively
recognize and understand as they browse through your pages ––if
you choose to follow the included instructional material. There will
likely be additional templates to choose from in the future, but
the team’s focus is currently on restructuring the Earlham
site, maintaining the existing pages, working on new projects,
and developing tools and training to assist and empower users.
Editable Regions
The Template has six distinct "editable" sections or "regions".
What is meant by editable regions is that these are the only areas
in which the template-user can, by default, enter their own content.
We'll get more into the details later in this document, but for
now let's explore these editable sections:Title
The title or page title is the name displayed in the "Title
Bar" of the open browser window displaying your Web page. The
header will display up to 45 characters, which includes spaces and
punctuation as well as letters and numbers. All pages created from
the EC Template have "Earlham College -- new page" in the
title to begin. Please be sure to change this, and select your titles
carefully ––this is likely the first thing your visitors
will see as they enter your site. The Earlham Home Page displays “Earlham
College –– Richmond, Indiana” as its title.
