Baseball Post-Season Awards for 2009 Announced; For Immediate Release: RICHMOND, Ind. — Senior Alex Anderson and junior Jake Carr were honored on Tuesday as the Earlham College baseball team awards were announced by Head Coach John Cate. Anderson (Logansport, IN/Logansport) and Carr (Richmond, IN/Richmond) were selected as the Co-Most Valuable Players. Anderson started all 36 games for the Quakers including nine as a pitcher. He was third on the squad in victories with three and topped the pitching staff with 47 strikeouts in 12 games. At the plate, Anderson had the third best batting average for the Quakers at .359, while leading the team in stolen bases (14) and triples (5). In the field, Anderson topped the squad with 68 assists from several positions. Carr had 55 hits this spring, which is a single-season record. He also set the career record for doubles with 33 and the single-season mark with 17. He also broke the single-season record for runs scored with 37 runs. All of Carr’s exploits added up to another record as now holds the career batting average mark at .397 in three seasons. Carr was also selected as next year’s team captain. Wayne, IN/Snider). • Hustle Award: Seniors Tilmon Clark(Winchester, IN/Winchester)/Danny Bridge (Logansport, IN/Lewis Cass). • Most Improved: Clark/senior Ben Schuttish (San Francisco, CA/Thurgood Marshall). • Inspiration Award: Senior Shingo Katoh (Konanshi, Japan/International)/sophomore Jesus Jimenez (Chicago, IL/Archbishop Quigley). • Newcomer: Schroeder. — EC — Contact: |
