Team Awards for 2009 Announced

RICHMOND, Ind. — The team awards for the Earlham College women’s track squad were announced on Tuesday by Head Coach Nick Johnson.
Sophomore Starr Gary (Indianapolis, IN/Northwest) was named the Most Outstanding Performer.
Sophomore Ramona Hemmings (Cleveland Heights, OH/Shaw) was named the Most Improved Performer, while Elizabeth Ross (Davie, FL/Pine Crest) was the Most Outstanding First-year. Senior Jessica Kane (Milladore, WI/Auburndale) was honored with the Coach’s Award.
Gary won the 100-meter dash at the North Coast Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships earlier this month with a time of 12.78 seconds. She followed that performance with a time of 26.33 seconds to take second place in the 200-meter dash, while anchoring the 1,600-meter relay squad that finished fourth with a time of 4:11.86.
Ross claimed the NCAC title in the high jump by clearing 5’1¾”. Hemmings had a distance of 33’5¾” to take second in the conference in the triple jump. She was also fifth in the long jump at 15’10½”.
Kane finished second in the long jump with a distance of 16’0½.” The top three in each event are considered all-conference.
