Experience around the diamond and the addition of many new arms to the pitching staff have Earlham College head coach Tom Parkevich optimistic about the 2001 season. "We will be young on the mound, but we have increased our team speed and strengthened our defense," said the Quaker mentor. Junior co-captains Michael Faile (Fairview Park, OH/Fairview) and Jason Byers (Arcanum, OH/Arcanum) lead a group of 11 returning lettermen, including nine starters.

Earlham plays in the West Division along with Denison, Ohio Wesleyan, Wabash, and Wittenberg. Allegheny, Hiram, Kenyon, Oberlin, and Wooster comprise the East Division. Within the divisions, teams will play three-game weekend series. The top two teams in each division advance to the NCAC Championships at Canton, Ohio, on May 10-11. In 2000, Earlham posted an overall record of 10-23 and finished seventh in the NCAC at 4-8.
