My professional life is a wonderful mix of teaching and writing about cellular/molecular biology. At Earlham: I am Professor of Biology and have been at the College 16 years (oh my gosh!). I regularly teach Cells, Genes and Inheritance; Cell Physiology; Advanced Cell Physiology; and Molecular Genetics. I also contribute to the Biology/Chemistry interdepartmental major.
Scholarly Interests: I have contracted with a publisher to write an introductory molecular/cellular biology text that will take a different approach than those on the market already. A major goal of the text is to incorporate what we know about how students learn into the structure of the text and its supplementary materials. Thus, major features of the project include active learning exercises, problem based learning scenarios, and student-centered projects. Two other goals are guiding development of the text: integration of genetics across cellular/molecular biology topics and conscious inclusion of evolutionary principles throughout the text.
I also enjoy gardening, cooking, hiking, and traveling. |
