A photo of Erick and Ginger at the National Palace in Mexico City.
We arrived in Mexico City on Thursday night very excited and with great curiosity to get to know the city. On Friday morning we listened to two talks, the first with Alejandra Ancheita from PRODESC (Proyecto de Derechos Economicos, Sociales y Culturales) and the second with Rodolfo Cordova from CADES (Centro de Alternativas para el A photo of Rodolfo in Mexico city. Desarrollo Social) about human and labor rights in Mexico and the failures and responsibilities of the Mexcian government in terms of the immigration situation, respectively. After taking a break to eat and walk around and check out the metro, we headed to the impressive Museo Nacional de Antrolopologia. Howard and Patty Lamson joined us Saturday morning at the Palacio Nacional to listen to a talk about Diego Rivera’s murals that are there. Our guide, Alberto Fernandez, gave us a very enjoyable, informative explanation of the various murals. Our day continued with a visit to the Colegio de San Ildefonso. After that we split into three groups. Some went to the street market in San Angel. Others went to the Bosque and Castillo de Chapultepec to tour the National Museum of History. The third group headed to the Teotihuacan pyramids. Our last day in Mexico City, Sunday, found us downtown in the morning and at Frida Kahlo’s house and the Coyoacan Market in the afternoon. We had dinner with a student activist, Frida, who told us about the history of student movements in Mexico, particularly those organized by the students of UNAM. Overall, the trip was very enjoyable and educational. It was great for the students to get to know this different region of Mexico.
