I graduated
from the Washington International School
in 1996.
During my summers I would work as a camp counselor at Shiloh Quaker camp. places that really influenced me to be the way I am today. I was able to let go and be myself at camp, a loud, fun loving, great counselor. I loved working with 11-13 year old boys and girls. Some people may think that this is the hardest age to work with, but I loved it every time. They are challenging, but the friendships you make with some of the kids are absolutely amazing and seeing the kids grow and change in a two or four week period is a fabulous process. We would take kids on rock climbing, canoeing and hiking trips. Many of these trips would take planning to go on. You needed to get all your campers packed up, we needed to put all the food and gear together so we knew what we were taking. We needed to put together all the water and the iodine purification system we had to purify water on the trips. Taking 6, 1 gallon jugs on a trip is heavy and that is what one may go through in one day. Each gallon jug adds 8 pounds of weight to your bag. The trips we take are for 3 nights, 4 days or 2 nights, 3 days. It will depend on the age of the kids.
I worked at this camp for four years, and then wanted to try something else. The summer of 1999 traveled top Mali do an internship.
