Chemistry Department Glovebox

An inert atmosphere glovebox is used to work with air- and moisture-sensitive materials. By having an inert gas (argon) inside "the box" and by having ports that work like airlocks to transfer materials in and out without contaminating the atmosphere of the box with air or moisture, such materials can be handled easily and safely. Many structurally interesting and reactive inorganic compounds as well as many of the organometallic catalysts currently used for organic transformations in natural product and pharmaceutical synthesis require the use of this kind of inert-atmosphere handling technique.
