Reiki- Universal Life Energy

Reiki is a Japanese word that can be translated as “Universal Life Energy.” Reference to and symbols for this concept have been found in ancient texts from 2,000 – 3,000 B.C. This is about the time that spiritual leaders and physicians became separate groups. (Before this, spiritual leaders were the healers.) In the mid 1800’s, Dr Mikao Usui, a Japanese Monk, began searching for this ancient knowledge and today training in this form of energy healing has spread across the United States, because it is simple and it works.

A Reiki treatment is an energy transfer, from the Universal Life Energy to the recipient. Gentle, still, hand placements can be used at the site of discomfort or as a total body treatment. The recipient can be fully clothed and should be comfortably situated. Reiki can be used as a self-healing technique or done by a layperson or professional health care provider.

Reiki is used to bring the body, mind, and spirit into harmony and balance. It can be used in conjunction with standard medical treatments. Reiki is a safe healing modality for any medical diagnosis or condition. It can accelerate healing, relieve pain, and decrease symptoms. Reiki is a complement, not a substitute, for medical care.

Outcomes can never be guaranteed, but generally the response to Reiki is deep relaxation. Conditions that recently occurred respond more quickly, and chronic or long term conditions may require several treatments. However, you can never do too much or too little Reiki.

Reiki training is available today with a variation in cost, content, and length of presentation. The content has been expanded by many of the “Masters” who provide the training, but all contain attunements to bring greater awareness and feeling of energy and simple techniques that increase the healing potential. The healing benefit apparently comes from all of the variations.
