Earlham's Principles and Practices
. . . or . . .
Here's how we will
get along together for two weeks!
During the summer, Earlham College hosts a variety
of groups who contract to use campus facilities. These groups include
academic enrichment programs such as Explore-A-College and Odyssey,
as well as athletic camps.
Living and working alongside peers,
Earlham College students, and faculty obligates us to function
within a set of policies
and procedures established by Earlham and the hosted programs.
Earlham policies are articulated in the document Principles
and Practices, which focuses on respect for persons, integrity,
peace and justice, simplicity, and consensus governance. Hopefully
you
will have an opportunity to experience and deepen your understanding
of these principles.
The following guidelines have been developed out
of our concern for your safety and for the well-being of the group
as a whole. Please read carefully.
- In order
to take full advantage of the program and receive college credit
for your work, you are expected to attend
class and submit work in a timely manner.
- Students are not permitted to leave campus during
the program except with explicit and prior permission of the
Director.
- Tobacco use by those under 18, alcohol, and drugs
are prohibited on the Earlham campus.
- Respect the working and living space of others.
- Take responsibility for your own actions.
- Be a responsible peer and friend by coming to the
assistance of those who are making unwise choices. Talk to
an adult in position of program responsibility.
- You are responsible for your own room, its contents,
and your personal items. Please make sure to keep you money
and valuables in a safe place. The program is not responsible
for the
loss of such items.
- Students are expected to be in the residence hall
by 10:00 p.m.
- Only Explore-A-College participants and staff are
permitted in the residence hall. No outside visitors will be
admitted.
- You will be sent home immediately, with no refund,
for any of the following reasons:
- Leaving
campus without permission.
- Harassing,
threatening physical harm, or inflicting physical harm
on another student or Earlham staff.
- Intentionally damaging or vandalizing Earlham property.
- Drinking alcoholic beverages or using illicit drugs.
- Setting
off a false fire alarm (a felony in the State of Indiana).
- Participating
in any apparent malicious or potentially dangerous pranks.
