Jean Renoir's
romantic comedy Elena and Her Men
stars Ingrid Bergman in her most sensual role as a beautiful, but impoverished,
Polish princess in turn-of-the-century Paris. Having sold her last pearl to pay
the rent, Princess Elena is forced to accept a marriage proposal form a wealthy
suitor. Her amorous adventures continue, however, when she meets the elegant
Count (Mel Ferrer) and General Rollan (Jean Marais) at a festive Bastille Day
celebration. Both men are smitten by her beauty. In an intriguing political
maneuver, Elena's charms are enlisted to persuade Rollan to seize power while
the Count plots to win her over. This delirious story ends up at a country
brothel, where Elena, surrounded by her suitors, must choose her true love.
