Rebellious socialite Ellie
Andrews (Claudette Colbert) weds a handsome social climber only
to have the marriage annulled by her wealthy father. Tired of his
control, she dives off the family yacht in Miami and decides to
travel to New York. On the bus, she meets a street-smart reporter
named Peter Warren (Clark Gable). The pair ends up traveling
together as Peter searches for a great story. Nearing New York,
with their many adventures coming to an end, Peter and Ellie
reluctantly realize that they are in love, yet they are afraid to
admit it to each other. It Happened One
Night is a warm and romantic film that has
lost none of its magic in the 60-some years since it was
originally released. It was also the first film to win all the
major Academy Awards: Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Actress,
Best Screenplay, and Best Director.
