Earlham
Students & the Japan-America Student Conference
Although not a study abroad program,
several Earlham students have applied and been accepted to participate
in the Japan-American Student Conference programs. The Japan-America
Student Conference (JASC) is an educational and cultural exchange
program for university students from the United States and Japan.
It is the oldest student-run exchange program in the United States,
beginning with the first JASC in 1934. JASC provides an opportunity
for Japanese and American students from diverse backgrounds to extensively
discuss issues that affect our two nations. For more information
go to the JASC site (link). Chuck Yates will serve on the JASC
National Advisory Committee beginning in 2005. Below is a list of past participants..........

2005 Florence Maher reflecting
on her JASC experience:
"JASC really was an incredible experience. I met so many interesting
people, from both delegations. It has been my experience that in
many study abroad programs, it can be difficult to meet regular
students your own age and be given the opportunity to interact and
discuss with them at length. In JASC, that is the point. Sometimes
the language and cultural gap in frustrating, but I think by the
end of the experience we all had come a long way from the first
week in terms of maturity, patience, and breadth of worldview."
