2008 Announcement

2008 Library Senior Art Purchase Award
and
Presidential Senior Art Purchase

The Earlham Libraries and President Doug Bennett have two Senior Art Purchase Awards. President Bennett’s Purchase Award goes on display in his office, home, or elsewhere on campus. Awards have gone to Marcus Davis (2000), Sarah Hampton (2001), and Naomi Dalglish (2002).

One of the attractive features of the Earlham Libraries is its collection of works by former Earlham students, a collection built by the annual purchase of a work by a graduating senior since 1973.  The Science Library now holds the metal sculpture installation piece by Chris Hartman (2003), while Lilly is home to William Chou’s graphic drawing triptych (2005), Virginia Hancock's photography (2006), and paintings by Hannah Holby (2008)

All current seniors are eligible to submit work for consideration for the 2008 Library Senior Art Purchase Awards.  Each individual may submit up to three entries.  Work in any medium that can appropriately become part of the library's visual environment will be considered for the award, the only restrictions being those of scale and durability of materials.

Entry deadline: Friday, April 18, 2008
                              -----------------------------------------------------------------

All entries must be delivered personally to Tom Kirk’s office.  For pieces in the Senior Art Show, please deliver a note indicating which are to be considered.  (Works that are too large to be moved easily should be placed in Carpenter 400 studio or the upstairs Runyan studio and Nancy Taylor or Tom Kirk should be notified that the entry is there.)

                  -----------------------------------------------------------------------

The awards selections will be made by Nancy Taylor, Tom Kirk, and Doug Bennett  in consultation with the faculty
of the Art Department.

The recipients of the awards will be notified by Tom Kirk and Doug Bennett.

The entries selected will receive a $350 purchase award.
