Themes:

  1. Getting Started:

    for new Moodle users. 2 hour hands on.
    Set up your course. Plan curriculum outline in weekly or topics format. Add resources -- upload files.
    Overview of Activities -- Assignment (file upload, online, offline), Forum, Glossary, Quiz
  2. Refresher:

    for faculty having used Moodle 1.4 last year. New features and opportunities in v1.5. 1 hr hands-on.
  3. Acrobat:

    Creating resources for easy use by students (1 hr hands-on):
    • best practices for scanning into Acrobat
    • converting Word , Powerpoint into Acrobat
  4. Advanced:

    Using the grade book. Pedagogical possibilities of other Moodle activities. 1 hr hands-on.

Moodle sessions: build your course

Bolling PC Lab.
  • I'll spend 3-4 hr block of time in a Lab to be available to any faculty who drop in to help with course creation on Moodle.
  • Take advantage of this time period to build your Moodle course with expert help present.
  • Bring your portable with you. We can also install Mozilla Firefox if necessary.
  • Scanners will be available for scanning printed resources.

Moodle Milestones

Meet to review and celebrate progress made with Moodle CMS at Earlham over the past academic year and look ahead to future opportunities.
Lunch meeting in the Richmond Room with lunch at 12 and finish at 3.
Prize drawing -- webcam, USB thumb drives, software (Photoshop Elements v3).

Format:

  1. A survey of the great strides that EC faculty have made with Moodle over the past year. This would be based on my presentation Moodle Milestones @ ITLAC and would last 15-20 mins.
  2. Celebrate achievements of faculty. They have accomplished a lot in the past year. 3 faculty to present how they have used Moodle in their courses taking about 10 mins each:
    • Sandrine Sanos (Humanities)
    • Julia May (Fine Arts)
    • Jennifer Ziebarth (Maths)
  3. New Directions:
    • 20 mins showing new features of Moodle 1.5 (MHP) [new blocks, grade book, messaging, look & feel]
    • Lori Watson/Corinne Diebel showing how they are going to tackle their joint courses (10 mins)
  4. Conversation/discussion about directions faculty are interested in and other possibilities.
