Why make announcements?

Brent Smith was able to easily keep students up to date with the resources he uploaded into his Moodle course by adding a News item describing what he had just done into the News forum (aka announcements) each time. You can see from this screenshot that he was a frequent flyer which meant that students were consistently using Moodle to keep themselves current.

Making announcements - sending email to class

You can make announcements online to your class by adding them to the News forum (which you may have renamed Announcements). All the newest announcements are listed in the "Latest news" box and every posting is automatically emailed to the class.

To add an announcement to the Announcements (News forum):

  1. In the Latest news box : click Add a new topic
  2. fill in Subject: & Message: to post (for example see accompanying video clip).
    Note that all students are subscribe to this forum so they will automatically receive an email message.
  3. Browse and add an attachement if desired.
  4. Save changes.

  1. Click Administration : Settings ...
  2. Choose number of News items (ie announcements) to show
  3. click Save changes
