SICE 2002
So after over four years, I'm finally back in Japan.
I'm one of eight Earlham students participating in the Studies
in Cross-Cultural Education (SICE) program in Morioka, Iwate.
I'm not sure exactly what this page will become, be it a personal
page about my experiences in Japan, or a more generic companion
to Derek's page.
I plan on just letting the page kinda grow into what it will.
They keep us pretty busy on this program, but I hope
to be able to update this page at least once a week (probably
on weekends).
For those who found your way here in some way other
than through my personal page or you just have no clue who I am,
my name is Jesse Miller. I'm a third-year Theatre Arts major at
Earlham College. If you're
curious, there's a link at the bottom of this page to my main
homepage.
I play three major roles in Japan. First, I am a teaching
assistant at Josei Junior High School. I work there Monday, Tuesday,
and half of Thursday every week. I really love the school and
feel like I'm fitting in rather well. I've joined the Kendo club
(Japanese fencing), which has allowed me to form an even closer
relationship with the students. Second, I am a hosted member of
the Mori family. I live with Keishi (father) and Teruko (mother),
who are both wonderful people. Their two daughters, Machiko and
Chieko, are both currently away at college, so it's just the three
of us at home. Third, I take classes Wednesdays and Fridays every
week in Japanese, Religion, and Culture and Education.
I will probably elaborate on all this later on. If
you can think of anything you'd like to see on this page, or if
you'd just like to say "Konnichiwa", I check my email
on an almost daily basis (old habits die hard). milleje2@earlham.edu
