Four Microsoft researchers have published a paper (DOC format) arguing that no combination of hardware, software, and law will ever succeed in protecting digital content from illicit copying. Hence content companies will have to change their business models to survive. "In short, if you are competing with the darknet [the P2P networks], you must compete on the darknet’s own terms: that is, convenience and low cost rather than additional security."
