The International Dunhuang Project provides free online access to 50,000 handwritten Chinese manuscripts found in a cave in 1900. Since their discovery, individual manuscripts have been taken by visitors and dispersed around the world. Beyond providing open access, the new project is the only realistic way for scholars to view the original collection in its entirety.
