Another argument for publicly-funded stem cell research

You know the main arguments for President Obama to reverse the Bush restrictions on federally-funded stem cell research.

Here's a good one you may not have heard, from Deirdre Madden of the University College Cork Law Department:

“In my opinion, it is preferable that the research should be funded from public or governmental sources rather than private funding so as to ensure open access to research results – both positive and negative – and easier translation into clinical practice in due course,” Madden says.

Update.  Also see Toni Brayer:

Stem cell research from public funding will potentially ensure open access to research results and allow easier transition from research to development of new therapies and cures for patients with a wide range of illnesses.
