David Wiley likes Sen. Durbin's OER mandate and open textbooks grants. But one textbook author calls the mandate "scary" and says, "I don’t know if [textbook publisher] Pearson can still make money if a percentage of their market decides to simply deal with the PDF".
Ode Magazine profiles Anita Palepu, co-founder of Open Medicine. Says Palepu, "Medicine is a very traditional profession, so some will think we're quite radical".

Removing the barriers to serious research.
I recommend the OA tracking project (OATP) as the best way to stay on top of new OA developments. You can read the OATP feed on a blog-like web page or subscribe to it by RSS, email, or Twitter. You can also help build the feed by tagging new developments you encounter.
