The Philosophy Student Initiative (PSI)
Philosophy Department, Earlham College

The Philosophy Student Initiative (PSI) is Earlham's organization of philosophy students. Founded by students in 1992, it sponsors weekly philosophy conversation lunches, hosts social events and philosophy talks, organizes the annual picnic, tutors lower level students, canvasses student opinion on desirable seminar topics and curricular reform, and speaks for student interests in the weekly department meetings of the philosophy faculty. (Yes, a PSI representative attends department meetings.) At the initiative of students, PSI can do many other things as well. Twice, for example, PSI has rented a college van and driven a group of students to one of the annual, national conferences of the American Philosophical Association. PSI is vital in sustaining a learning community of philosophy students at Earlham.

PSI membership is not limited to majors and minors. It is open to all students with an interest in philosophy. It charges no dues, but does welcome pitch-in labor for some of its events. If you would like to join, or help, or attend some of its functions, contact the convenors.

Also contact the PSI convenors if you have ideas for philosophy events you'd like to see at Earlham.

To receive PSI announcements by email, make sure you're on our list of interested students.

The current co-convenors of PSI are:
