The Political Situation Surrounding the Peace Accords



On Sunday, August 23, 1992, The New York Times reported the words of Israeli Deputy Foreign Minister Yosef Beilin.
They won't find a more moderate Government than the current one. If we meet, we will talk business this time. And I hope they are not afraid. For them, this is a moment of truth, and I hope they do not want to postpone it.

 The recent Israeli elections had put Yitzhak Rabin in the office of Prime Minister. Rabin led his centrist Labor Party to victory of the more conservative Likud Party. Rabin brought with him Foreign Minister Shimon Peres, the man who would eventually bring about the secret negotiations between the Palestine Liberation Organization and the Israeli Government that would eventually be known as The Oslo Accords.
