- Exploitation- To use selfishly for one's own ends or profit.
- Fair Labor Standards Act (The Wages and Hours Act)- Passed in 1938 under Franklin D. Roosevelt. Bans employer engaged in interstate commerce from employing workers under sixteen or under eighteen in hazardous occupations.
- Formal Sector- Large companies, manufacturing/mining and exporting businesses.
- Harkin Act- Congressional legislation that would make importation of child produced products illegal. As of now, has not been passed.
- ILO Convention 138- Established a global minimum age of employment and defined the conditions under which children are allowed to work. Defined child labor globally.
- Informal Sector- Small businesses, agricultural sectors, non exporters.
- Rugmark- The campaign in India to end child labor in the carpet industry. Carpets made without child labor are marked with the Rugmark seal.
- Sentinelles- A Swiss charity that deals with human rights.
- Tierra del Vido- The program run by Sentinelles in South America whose purpose it is to provide children with healthy employment alternatives to working in the coal mines.
