Cadres
Those people required by the central government and the Chinese Communist Party to coerce people into compliance of the one-child policy.
Fertility Rate
The rate of production in a society within a given time
Fuedal Society
This period was marked by very poor conditions, and a low population growth. During this time a great amount of the Chinese population lived as serfs, spending their lives indebted to a lord.
Mortality Rate
The rate of deaths in a society within a given time
New China
From 1949-present, the People's Republic of China was marked by economic and social change for the Chinese people.
Replacement Rate
The number of births as compared to deaths in a society in a given time
Sati
The act of a widowed Indian woman throwing herself onto the pyre of her husband.
Semifuedelistic/Semicolonial period
Starting in 1840, this time was the beginning of western influence in China.
"Single-child" certificate
The certificate give to couples who pledged to only have one child and will recieve benifits for their decision.
Slave Society
This time period in Chinese history was marked by a great separation between the rich and the poor. Slaves were seen as pawns and often lost their lives when their masters engaged in battle.
"unplanned" pregnancy
A pregnancy that is not allowed by the Chinese goverenment because it does not comply with the one-child policy.
