Miami based Anti-Castro group responsible for dropping Anti-Castro literature over Havana that precipitated the passing of the Helms Burton Act
conservative viewpoint
considers states as the primary actors in international relations, favors unchanging political structures, and views society as a whole as the most important recipient of international relations
European Union (EU)
a group of European states joined together for the purpose of economic stability
General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT)
world organization founded in 1947 for the purpose of working towards freer trade on a multilateral basis
liberal viewpoint
considers states as the primary actors in international relations, favors changing political structures, and views individuals as the most important recipients of international relations
Helms-Burton Act
an act passed by the United States government strengthening the embargo on Cuba to punish foreign companies that do business with Cuba
Organization of American States (OAS)
an organization composed of Latin American states and the United States; formed to promote collective security
revolutionary viewpoint
considers classes as the primary actors in international relations, favors changing political structures, and views society as a whole as the most important recipient of international relations
sanctions
agreements among states to cease trade with a state that has violated international law
trafficking
the commercial exchange of goods (often implies a negative connotation)
World Trade Organization (WTO)
established by GATT members in 1995 to enforce free trade of manufactured goods, services, and intellectual property
