The Earlham College Psychology Department has taken a national leadership role by calling on the American Psychological Association (APA) to toughen its stance against psychologists' involvement in torture and other forms of illegal interrogation.
In a public announcement in October 2007, the Department invited Psychology Departments and professional groups across the country to join us in adopting an Earlham College Psychology Department resolution condemning the participation of psychologists in coercive interrogations in secret facilities where due process of law has been denied.
The resolution also calls for the APA to prohibit participation in such interrogations by psychologists. The Departments of Psychology at Guilford College and Smith College have joined us in adopting the resolution, and other groups across the country are considering similar resolutions.
A copy of the resolution has been sent to APA President Sharon S. Brehm.
