an overveiw
The Digital Divide is the gap between people who have access to the
Internet and people who don’t have such privileges. The digital Dived
exists thought the world and is not just an American Issue. The divide
comes from people who have the basic computer skills and have knowledge of
the Internet, and those who lack the skills because they have yet to be
taught. As Americans we may not see the problem in smaller countries that
are on the other side of the world. These countries have little to no
access to computers let alone the Internet.
Many factors determine the Digital Divide such as, Race, Religion, Region,
and the most important would be income. People with money and well paying
jobs have the ability and the access that is needed to get ahead in the
world. Higher paying jobs require many types of computer knowledge. This
shows that the more knowledge about computer you have the better job you
will have, this goes hand in hand with the more money you have the more
access you have to information.
One simple way to help bridge the gap is to educate our youth. The more
computers that we have in the classroom will give children the tools they
need to gain computer knowledge. With more computers in the class rooms it
will give all races and religions an equal shot in learning about
computers and the Web.
