Students participating in diversity program in Goddard Auditorium

The Office of Multicultural Affairs responds to the needs of students and the institution’s commitment to diversity. The staff works with students to promote and encourage dialogue between underrepresented and majority student populations.

Action

The Diversity Aspiration Statement emphasizes our efforts as a learning community “to create social justice” and “to treat all humans with respect, honoring human dignity.” The Office of Multicultural Affairs affirms and supports these aspirations by initiating intercultural communication, providing training and workshops and bringing diverse speakers and groups to campus.

Conversations

Engagement

The Office of Multicultural Affairs provides opportunities for Earlham’s diverse student body to engage in dialogue, strengthening and fostering community.  The aim is to create an environment where students can take risks and express different points of view in the pursuit of mutual understanding and growth.

Support

The Office of Multicultural Affairs supports students by working in conjunction with student organizations, providing a safe space for students to share their concerns and encouraging student leadership and collaboration. The office encourages students to reflect on and learn about the complex set of issues that impede social justice. The staff links underrepresented students with information, resources and directs them to the offices on campus that provide services such as internships, fellowships, and study abroad opportunities.
