The mission of Earlham College Counseling Services is to provide a professional and confidential setting for the psychological, emotional, and developmental support of students as they pursue academic goals and explore personal growth, and act as a resource for faculty and staff to assist with their interactions with students. When this mission is fulfilled, the quality of students’ experience at Earlham is enhanced, and they are more likely to achieve academic and personal success.

Counseling Services provides brief, solution-focused supportive individual counseling free of charge for currently enrolled undergraduate students. Group counseling may also be provided according to students’ needs. Services are provided by licensed mental health professionals and supervised graduate student interns. Services are designed to assist students with a number of concerns and to enhance their ability to be more effective and successful in their academic and personal lives. Students who need long-term or more intensive services and/or medication will be referred to community resources. Students are responsible for the cost of these off-campus services. All students are eligible for Earlham’s crisis intervention services. The in-patient psychiatric facility of Reid Hospital in Richmond is available for serious psychiatric emergencies. In such cases, the Dean of Student Development will notify parents or legal guardians.

In addition, Counseling Services offers mental health consultation, education, and outreach programs for students, faculty, and staff throughout the academic year.

Counseling Services is located on the first floor of Olvey-Andis Hall, at the end of the south hall past Health Services. Hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM; other hours may be available by special arrangement. While appointments are not required, they are highly recommended to assure that a counselor is available to talk with you.

Health Services Nurse, Gail Miller.

The staff of Earlham Health Services (EHS) believes your health is one of your most important assets. Our goal is to help you reach and maintain an optimal level of health. In order for you to reach that goal, we are here to: 1) provide care for acute illness and injuries; 2) help you learn how to care for minor illnesses or injuries and to determine when it is appropriate to seek medical care; 3) further your knowledge about your body and health conditions so that you can make responsible decisions about your personal health throughout life; and 4) provide educational literature and programs on health issues.

EHS offers ambulatory care and is located on the south first floor of Olvey-Andis Hall. Health Services nurses hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (occasionally closed for Convocation on Wednesday). Students who require physician intervention are seen (by appointment only) by a Board Certified Physician in Family Practice at EHS on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. A Nurse Practitioner provides gynecologic services (by appointment only) at EHS.
