Important Information

The coming year will be an exciting and adventurous time for you, and we in Residence Life will be working to make you feel as at comfortable as possible in your residence hall. Earlham College is based largely around the idea of community, community which we hope will grow not only in your academic life and among all those who work, study and learn on campus but in each residence hail and floor as well. The Earlham Community is built from people who have come from across the globe, and it is our aim to create an environment in which students do not just sleep and shower, but can study, hang out, eat, nap and enjoy their time at Earlham.

All the members of the Office of Residence Life are looking forward to meeting each of you in August. If you or your parents have any questions before or during the academic year please feel free to call us!

What is Residence Life?

The Office of Residence Life is responsible for administration and management of the campus residence halls and residence life houses. They coordinate the housing assignment, room changes, the implementation of all residential life policies, and the administration of the spring housing process. The Associate Dean of Students and the Assistant Director for Residence Life provide leadership, direction and vision for the department. The Area Directors (ADs) are master’s level professionals who are each responsible for the operation of two to three residence halls, supervising Resident Assistants (RAs) implementing recreational and educational activities, advising residential governance and administering the Earlham Community Principles and Practices. RAs are returning students selected and trained to assist students with academic, social and personal concerns. They are located on each floor of the residence halls and are available for individual meetings and to make referrals when appropriate. RAs also design and implement community building activities and educational programs for the benefit of their floors.
