Important Policy Information
There is no financial aid specifically for May Term coursework. If you register for May Term when you register for Spring Semester AND your May Term hours do not bump you over 18 hours, then your May Term hours are considered part of Spring Semester, and your Spring Semester Financial Aid will apply. It may be possible to get additional loan monies to cover transportation costs for a May Term course which is off-campus. Set up an appointment with the Financial Aid Office if you are interested in this additional loan funding.
Earlham-funded financial aid can be applied to one Earlham or an approved GLCA off-campus program. As part of your application for off-campus study, you will meet with the Director of Financial Aid. In this meeting, you will receive information about how your financial aid affects your off-campus costs, and about the loans available to offset transportation expenses.
A student may take an approved leave of absence if they request the leave in writing, and it is approved by the Student Development Office. Direct Loan and Perkins Loan regulations regarding leaves of absence differ significantly from Earlham's leave of absence policies. Therefore, a student receiving any type of financial assistance is required to consult with the Financial Aid Office as per the leave request procedure of the Student Development Office. A student who withdraws from Earlham and is receiving any type of financial assistance must also consult with the Financial Aid Office prior to withdrawing from Earlham.
If you have borrowed through the Direct or Perkins Loan programs, you will be required to participate in an Exit Counseling Session for each type of loan prior to graduation. During this session you will be provided information regarding your total indebtedness as well as the different repayment plans available to you. You will also be informed of the ramifications of defaulting on your student loans. A few months prior to graduation, it is wise to double-check the status of your student account with the Accounting Office, to be certain that all outstanding balances have been paid.
