Wikipedia has a decent entry on the New World Symphony, and here is a more scholarly article for those wishing more information (you'll need to log into JSTOR):

Wiki's article on Rhapsody in Blue is a little more extensive:

Family Weekend Concert Soundfiles

Here is our Family Weekend Concert, October 3, 2009. The order is:

1) Holst Brass
2) Holst St. Paul Suite (Strings), Mvts. 3 and 4.
3) Dvorak Largo
4) Dvorak Finale

The recording is rather hissy. I'm sure this this will be fixed for our December concert.

Listening (on Naxos):

Rather than post a flash player as I've done in the past, you can now go to Naxos MusicOnline and access multiple recordings of the pieces.

The username and password are both "EarlhamPS." Just type "Dvorak New World Symphony" or "Gershwin Rhapsody in Blue" into the search path and then choose among the various recordings. This is a great new resource for us!

Morton Gould's Interplay is not available on Naxos, so here is a flash player. All four movements are here, just toggle to get to the next one.

Since my favorite performance of Rhapsody in Blue is that of Leonard Bernstein playing piano and also leading the NY Philharmonic, I'll post that here too:
