Minutes of the 58th Annual  Weaver Reunion

 June 20, 2004

The 58th annual Howard C. Weaver family reunion convened at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 20, 2004 - Father's Day - at the Flowers Building, Preble County Fairgrounds in Eaton, OH

Food tables were generously prepared with covered dishes - each containing some delicious food - for our nourishment. Lemonade was provided this year by Fred Daniel Weaver.

Social "reunioning" began in earnest as the conversations between cousins of several generations exchanged the latest news, joys, concerns and laughter.

A brief business meeting was called to order by President, Harvey Allen Weaver. Minutes of the previous meeting were read. No additions or corrections were made.

A free will collection was taken by passing around John Weaver's brand new (thank you very much) hat. (See Treasurer's Report)

Thank you to Fred Daniel Weaver for his discovery of a brand new, shiny (and much admired) 10-gallon milk can while on a trip to "Amish Country" in Holmes County, Ohio, since our last reunion. He has offered the use of this milk can in future years for our annual - and traditional - Weaver Reunion beverage of choice...lemonade, of course! Recipe to follow:

Weaver Reunion Lemonade
2 cups of REALLEMON Lemon Juice (commercial bottled concentrate)
1 gallon water
1 cup sugar
Multiply the above ingredients as needed to prepare the desired quantity. Add 5-6 cups of fresh lemon slices.
Stir all ingredients well. Find some willing candidate to be an "official taster". Adjust lemon juice, water, and/or sugar as needed.

Steven Morrison, nephew of Aunt Irene. He enjoyed renewing acquaintances with several of the Weavers. he was very appreciative of being included in our reunion this year.

Entertainment:

John Weaver told a joke about the high cost of brain surgeries. It provided a lot of laughter and good-natured teasing between the ladies and gentlemen in the audience this afternoon. Joking and teasing are a tradition at all Weaver gatherings and especially the annual reunion.

Correspondence:

Acknowledgement from the family of Janet Leis who died December, 2003, for the contribution to Slifer's Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund per the family request. Janet was a cousin, by marriage, through our grandmother, Pearl (Leis) Weaver. She was faithful in her attendance at our Weaver reunions. Several members of the Weaver family attended Janet's funeral service.

Acknowledgement from the family of Mabel (Weaver) Beckman who died January 4, 2004, in San Diego, CA. A floral tribute was sent for her memorial service. The 23rd Psalm was printed in her remembrance card. It exemplifies her faith. Though distance limited our visits for several years, she remained in phone contact with brothers and sisters. She was dear to her sisters, brothers, nieces, and nephews. She will be greatly missed.

5th-year reunion

A brief discussion was held on plans, ways and means, etc. for our "5th year" reunion to be held on Father's Day, 2005. A good exchange of thoughts and ideas for that day was offered for consideration.

Mildred (Weaver) Wellbaum was nominated, elected and she accepted to serve as President for the coming year. The "5th year" reunion has become a time when those who are unable to attend annually will make an extra effort to attend. I know we will all get behind Millie and help her in any way we can.

Andrew and Kelly (Weaver) Puffer graciously volunteered to plan and provide games for the children (and any adults) who wish to participate.

Reminiscing:

John Weaver and Duane Weaver shared a memory of the "good old days". Being called from the hayloft in the barn of the "home place" on Fuls Road, to come in for dinner, they decided to take a short cut by jumping into the stalls where one of the cows was standing. Duane landed, first on the back of the cow, then into a freshly deposited "cow pie". The grass was GRRREEEN! The cow pie was LARGE! Duane, it is reported, had to be "dunked" in the farm pond SEVERAL times before he could sit down to dinner.

We were pleased that Aunt Martha (Weaver) Weghorst joined us this year. "Thinking of you" greetings were signed by those present and will be sent to Grace "Weaver) Gudiatas, Fred and Irene Weaver, Wilbur (Pete) and Marion Weaver, Alma Weaver, Doris Weaver, Wayne Beckman.

Address update: Todd Weaver, 8309 Amber Leaf Court, Raleigh, NC 27612-6110

Several notices for this year's reunion have been returned due to incorrect addresses. No other updates or address changes were made at this time.

For complete list of those who attended the 2004 reunion, addresses, phone numbers, e-mail addresses, see the sign-in roster (separate records).

Meeting adjourned upon unanimous vote.

Fellowship continued with the usual trip to the local "DQ" for ice cream. Lawn games were enjoyed throughout the afternoon by Scott Weaver, Chase and Andrew Puffer and Gabe Weaver. Visiting between families and generations continued in quiet circles. Several independent tours of the fairgrounds to discover the farm animals provided some relaxation and reminded us of our rural heritage.

We had beautiful blue skies, with white fluffy clouds. Temperatures in low 70's. Low humidity.

We were small in number this year, but there was evidence that we are still a "close" family.

Hope to see you in 2005!

Respectfully submitted
