KOREA
In the process of rapid industrialization of the Korean economy, the migration of rural women especially in age group of 20-49 has been one of most serious problems. Various forms of agricultural work are performed by rural women such as spraying pesticides in rice, vegetable and fruit production. Until now, there has been little scientific research on the effects of chemical poisoning on state of health of rural women, damage to the environment and chemical residues in food products. At present, there is an increasing trend of reducing application of chemical fertilizers and pesticides after having serious experiences of poisoning. There are higher death rates among women exposed to pesticides than women without such exposure. The best method of farming in Korea, as well as other parts of the world, should be without application of pesticides in order to preserve the health of rural women, the environment, good food quality, and life of urban consumers by maintaining good soil conditions on our living earth.
