Howell Gatchell '69

Howell _GatchelHowell Gatchell '69 majored in political science. As a student he participated in WECI, serving as station manager for two-and-a-half years while also working at commercial radio stations in Richmond.

Howell retired in 2009 and moved back to Richmond after 25 years as News Director for radio stations KUZZ AM/FM and KCWR (FM) in Bakersfield, Calif., where he used the on-air name "Mark Howell." He has also worked at other major stations including KCBS, San Francisco and WCKY, Cincinnati.

Howell has received more than 120 journalism awards, and is a 2010 inductee into the Associated Press Television/Radio Association (APTRA) Hall of Fame. He is currently a weekend air personality on Richmond's WQLK ("Kicks96") and serves as a radio news consultant.

Howell began his term on the Alumni Council in 2005 and is a Lifetime Member. His favorite memories of Earlham include individual attention from professors and the friendships, on and off campus, that have endured through the years.
