The Eco-reps program works to model sustainable living practices in college residences in order to promote sustainable living behaviors. Eco-reps are student volunteers that live in the dorms and work with the Sustainability Office on a variety of ongoing campus sustainability initiatives. Each dorm has 2-3 Eco-reps who serve as dorm resources for all things sustainability related as well as help coordinate sustainability themed events and programs.

Eco-reps are also heavily involved in the following campus programs:

  • Earlham College Energy Wars - A 5-week program which pits each dorm against one another to see who can reduce their energy consumption the most.

  • College Move-out - At the end of each semester students work to collect reusable items that students throw out as they leave for the end of the semester. The reusable items are then incorporated into the Free Store or sent to local charities.

  • The Free Store - A place for useable items to be exchanged. It is a free thrift store for the Earlham community to foster an economy of shared resources. The Free Store works to reduce the amount of waste that ends up in the landfill and aims to give items a second life.

  • Green Dorm Certification - Much like the Green Offices Program that the Student Sustainability Corps run the Green Dorm Certification evaluates individual student rooms’ effectiveness with a variety of sustainability metrics.
